Look out, North Texas! There’s a whole boatload of arts-related events coming your way this week! Whether you’re in the mood for a thoughtful discussion, toe-tapping music, or a special outing for mom on Mother’s Day we’ve got you covered. If you’re having trouble deciding, take a look at this week’s Art&Seek picks.

Wednesday

The Fort Worth Opera has two big upcoming events today. First, the legendary ensemble Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán performs a mini-concert at noon in Sundance Square. The group will also provide music for a Spanish-language opera this weekend.

Also, the seventh season of the Fort Worth Opera’s program Frontiers happens tonight at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. The showcase highlights new operatic works. Selected composers and librettists will present their works in 20-minute performances sung by the FWO-TCU Lesley Artists.

Thursday

Fort Worth’s Artspace111 hosts two opening receptions tonight. Water Works is a group show featuring a collection in which water is the artistic medium. Photographer Kristin Kirkley show Desertscapes is a series of images exploring West Texas. Both exhibitions are on view through June 15.

The Patterson-Appleton Arts Center in Denton hosts designer Savannah Kurka for a craft-making session. Learn basic knot tying techniques to create modern plant hangers made of natural cording. Later, stop by Armadillo Ale Works for an after party.

Friday

Art&Seek’s Jerome Weeks leads a State of the Arts discussion with some of Denton’s changemakers and risk takers. They’ll be addressing social issues in Denton’s arts and music scene. Take part in the discussion at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center.

Dallas bassist and composer Robert Trusko plays Revelers Hall tonight. Head there for covers of Bjork, Bon Iver, and Jeff Buckley.

For music under the stars, stop by Whistle Stop Plaza for the Irving Concert Series. Tonight, hear the cover band Party Machine play all the hits from the ‘50s through today.

Saturday/Sunday

On Saturday, the Dallas Opera brings three of the most sought-after tenors to the Winspear Opera House. Don’t miss the one-night-only celebration.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with an afternoon of chamber music at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake. Apex Arts League hosts the Julius Quartet in a program that celebrates the influence and enlightenment of women in music.

Treat mom to flora, fauna, and music Sunday afternoon at Texas Discovery Gardens. The Women’s Chorus of Dallas will perform their annual Mother’s Day Concert followed by a live butterfly release.

Throughout the weekend, see Fort Worth Opera’s mariachi opera, “El Pasado Nunca Se Termina,” at Bass Performance Hall. It’s a love story wrapped around stirring melodies and the history of Mexico and cultural traditions.

Finally, Fort Works Art has a new photography exhibition featuring subjects such as Madonna, David Bowie, and Bob Marley. See the photographs in Kate Simon: Chaos and Cosmos.

Monday

In Fort Worth, the Botanical Research Institute of Texas’s Art in Bloom exhibition showcases floral works by 32 artists. Go there to see paintings, photos and more.
