Wednesday
Stay in the know about the renovation plans for the Kalita Humphreys Theater by attending a public information session at the historic theater. The New York interdisciplinary design studio selected to make improvements to the venue will give a presentation about their master plan. Participants are invited to come, meet the architects, and share their thoughts.
Artspace111 in Fort Worth celebrates the 40th anniversary of the space with memorabilia, art, and photographs. See “Studio111: Collective Inspiration’ through March 21.
The Lone Star Youth Orchestra presents a musical excursion through central and Eastern Europe with its concert A Voyage Down the Danube. Hear it tonight at the Irving Arts Center.
Thursday
Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, which granted women the right to vote at Claiming Our Place In Politics. The event is being held at the Belo Mansion and features film clips about women who contributed to the cause and a panel discussion with State Representatives Rhetta Bowers and Victoria Neave.
Head to Texas Woman’s University in Denton for The Power of Books: Inspiring Hope and Fighting for Social Justice. The free lecture features New York Times bestselling author Angie Thomas, whose book, “The Hate U Give” was turned into a major motion picture and TWU alumna Rose Brock, an award-winning author, and editor who co-founded the North Texas Teen Book Festival.
And, the Women’s Chorus of Dallas performs Travelin’ Voices tonight at Moody Performance Hall. The concert is the sixth annual celebration of women composers for Women’s History Month.
Friday
Kitchen Dog Theater’s “Alabaster” closes out this weekend at the Trinity River Arts Center. The play explores the meaning and purpose of art and the struggle of the lost and tortured souls that seek to create it.
Time is also running out to see Wylie Acting Group’s production of “Knights of the Not So Round Table.” The comedy follows the famous knights as they try to show King Arthur how important he is to others.
Stop by the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area tonight for a fireside chat. Participants can enjoy traditional campfire fun, including stories, songs, and s’mores.
She-Rock kicks off tonight at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio in Denton. The two-day festival has three stages and features all female-lead performances to celebrate International Women’s Day. Bands Lorelei K, Helium Queens, and Bella Tovar are just some of the bands on the bill.
Saturday/Sunday
“The House on Mango Street” closes out this weekend at the Latino Cultural Center in Dallas. The play, presented by Cara Mia Theatre, follows a Mexican-American girl as she navigates from adolescence to young womanhood and observes the roles of the women around her.
In Fort Worth, The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band performs a standing room only show at The Post at River East on Saturday. The three-piece country blues band is best known for their high-energy performances. The band plays more than 250 shows per year and the shows are fun for all ages.
Also on Saturday, The Van Zandt Arts & Cultural District Foundation presents the second annual Tribute to Townes Van Zandt. Local musicians, inspired by the late Texas songwriter will perform at the Forge Bar & Grill in historic Ben Wheeler.
Sunday, join Dallas Contemporary for a special FriendsWithYou inspired Family Day! Bring a canned food item to donate, and then take part in communal art activities, storytime, and activities that celebrate love, art, and friendship.
Monday
The Haggarty Gallery at the University of Dallas in Irving holds an Opening Reception for “Pieced + Painted.” The exhibition features recent paintings by artist Galen Cheney of Massachusetts and textile wall works by artist Andrea Myers of Ohio. Both artists will be in attendance and speak at the reception.
In Dallas, catch “Locally Sourced” at the Goldmark Cultural Center: Artspace & Studios. The exhibition features works by four area artists expressing different aspects of life in the DFW area through various mediums including photography, paintings, and ceramics.
Head to the Davis Library in Plano for a live-action game of Oregon Trail. The free, ticketed event is open to grades 4 and up.
The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is open and free today for Spring Break Monday.
Tuesday
The literary series Arts & Letters Live continues tonight at the Dallas Museum of Art. Author Anne Enright will discuss her novel “Actress,” a story about celebrity, sexual power, and a daughter’s search to understand her mother’s hidden truths.
The Flower Mound Symphony Orchestra performs a free concert at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church. The program will include Haydn’s Symphony #100 – “The Military” and Mozart’s Piano Concerto #21.
Attend a Naturalist talk at the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney. Author Amy Martin will share her extensive knowledge of poison ivy and poison oak and what you need to know to protect yourself.
