The lazy days of summer are officially here. Get out and make the most of the longer balmy days with one of these events the Art&Seek team has picked especially for you.

Waitress2Wednesday

Broadway has come to Fort Worth! Head there to see the four-time Tony nominated musical, ‘The Waitress.” Inspired by the beloved film, this new show features original music and lyrics by Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles. It’s at the Bass Performance Hall through June 24.

Join the Garland Symphony Orchestra at the Sachse Public Library for KidsNotes, a musical program that aims to expose young children to classical music. Kids can enjoy a storytime, a performance by a professional musician, games, and an instrument petting zoo.

Cut!Thursday

Discover the glamour, luxury, and artistry of cinematic couture at “Cut! Costume and Cinema.” The exhibition features 43 costumes from 27 films, including Johnny Depp’s costume from “Pirates of the Caribbean.” They’re on display at the Arlington Museum of Art through August 21.

The Hall of State at Fair Park in Dallas celebrates the abolishment of slavery in Texas with an exhibition about Juneteenth. The show features the only known original copy of the General Order No. 3. See it before the show closes on Sunday.

Friday

Bombshell Dance Project premieres three new works at Moody Performance Hall tonight. The headliner is “Like a Girl,” which is inspired by the experiences of women and what it means to fight like a girl. 

Tonight’s the opening reception for ArtSpace111’s annual juried exhibition. 2D and 3D work by 82 regional artists will be featured in this fifth annual show. Head to Fort Worth to see who’ll take home the top prize.

Saturday/Sunday

On Saturday, catch “The Monarch” at Dallas’ Bath House Cultural Center. Soul Rep Theatre and Echo Theatre will present the world premiere about four women fighting cancer and their battles to survive.

ArtCentre of Plano hosts an artist talk and brunch with the internationally renowned anthropological photographer Sylvester Jacobs. See a retrospective of his works and meet the artist on Saturday.

On Sunday, the five-time Grammy nominated, conjunto legends Jaime y Los Chamacos perform at Arlington’s Levitt Pavilion.

Learn the ancient art of Chinese brush painting at the Irving Arts Center. They’re hosting demos in honor of the exhibition, “Chinese Garden Party.”

Monday

mondayIn recent months, Blue House Too in Allen has showcased the artwork of area students. Now it’s time for the teachers. Head there to see art created by local educators.

“The Tribute” is an exhibition that pays homage to the animals that used to roam the Wild West. See paintings, sculptures and more created by Carol Acedo and Kellie Hudson at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center.

Tuesday

tuesdayIn Farmers Branch, Deborah Stenberg Shibboleth has an exhibition of photorealistic oil paintings on view. See “Vanities and Reflections” at the galleries at Brookhaven College.

Actor turned photographer Jason Lee (“My Name is Earl”) is exhibiting a selection of large-scale prints at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center in Denton. Don’t miss seeing “A Plain View: Photographs of Texas.”
