Levitt Pavilion Concert Series: Jenny & the Mexicats

Levitt Pavilion Arlington

Once upon a time, there was a young English woman who moved to Spain in search of a new musical sound. Jenny had performed her first concert at a festival in the United Kingdom when a fellow musician on the double bass invited her to Madrid. The pair added a flamenco guitarist and a colleague who, instead of drums, played the cajón, an extraordinary Spanish box. With Jenny’s compositions, the foursome started playing on the street and in venues throughout Spain performing an international fusion of sound that mixes jazz rhythms, rockabilly, folk, flamenco, reggae, Veracruz, country and cumbia. Their first album went gold with a combination of songs in English and Spanish. Their second album was OME, and their first single from that recording was part of the movie soundtrack for Amor de mis Amores directed by Manolo Caro.
