Who invented the printing press? It sounds like a question to be answered on a crossword but with the rise of historical musicals like “Hamilton,” it seems the father of the way we read is getting the same treatment. Kind of. “Gutenberg! The Musical!” follows two aspiring playwrights performing a backers’ audition for their new project – a big, splashy musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. Bud and Doug sing all the songs and play all the parts in their historical epic with the hope that one of the producers in attendance will give them their big break – a Broadway contract.
“Gutenberg! The Musical!” runs July 12 through August 18 at Amphibian Stage Productions in Fort Worth. Win this Big Deal and receive two tickets to the opening night performance of the musical spoof on July 12. Your opening night experience also includes champagne, cider, hors d’oeuvres and Amphibian’s famous chocolate chip cookies!
