Ready or not spring break is just around the corner!

I definitely fall into the “or not” category. Truth be told, I just cleared the last of the Christmas cards off the mantel this past weekend. Not to get off topic, but do you have a hard time discarding those cute holiday photo cards? You know, the ones of your cousin’s new baby asleep on Santa’s lap, or your best friend’s kids sledding. It just seems wrong to throw out pictures of adorable kids even if the words “HO HO HO” are featured prominently on said cards. On the other hand, keeping them isn’t practical either. Three large boxes of my daughter’s elementary school artwork in the hall closet are proof of that. As a result, the cute little reminders of the Yuletide season routinely hang around until March while I fight an internal battle with myself as to what to do with them.

Whether you’ve been busy letting go of the holidays or spring break planning just plain slipped your mind, don’t sweat it. There’s still time to get the wee ones out of the house and having a good time this March. Check out the Junior’s list of last-minute camps.

Spring break is the perfect time to get the kids reacquainted with their inner Picasso. Get those creative juices flowing with one of the cool offerings at Oil and Cotton’s during spring break week. Budding artists can flex their creative muscles at one or more of the morning and afternoon camps. Kids 5-12 can try their hand at Soft Pop Sculpture, capture the essence of a Tumbleweed with ink, or create a mixed media collage in the likeness of Fido or Fluffy. There are also camps for the littles ages 3-5.

This Spring Break SPARK! is taking the wayback machine to the 60s for their Movin’ and Groovin’ camp. Kids can create groovy tie-dye and spin art, use their engineering skills and design their own rollercoasters or derby cars. When they’re not creating, campers are free to take a spin on SPARK’s awesome climb, crawl, slide sculpture or explore the interactive experiences. This camp is for ages 7-12 and runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Before and after care is available as well. You can sign up for one day or the whole week.

For those kids ages 4-12 who love to figure out how things work there’s WorkChop’s Think Like Rube Goldberg Camp. In this 5-day camp, inspired by the work of cartoonist and engineer Rube Goldberg, young inventors use math, physics, and engineering to make Goldberg-esque contraptions.

Another great camp for kids who love to create and invent is Camp SCRAP in Denton. The name says it all. Camp SCRAP is an art camp centered on themes of creative reuse. Projects are a mix of staff lead projects and free building with access to a craft supply wall that’s chocked full of materials to choose from. During the week campers will create something of their choosing within these themes; Collage/Assemblage, Sculpture, Drawing/Painting, and Sewing. The 3-day camp is for kids in 1st through 6th grade.

Got a kid age 6 to 12 who’s been bitten by the acting bug? Teatro Dallas is offering a 5-Day Spring Break Camp that covers a wide range of artistic activities designed to stimulate creativity and imagination. Campers will use theatrical games, learn improv. and create scenes based on their own stories. In addition to acting, kids will also be exposed to prop building, theatrical make-up application, and music. The camp takes place at the Latino Cultural Center and culminates with a public performance.
