Guest Artist/Faculty Recital: Yuri Anshelevich, Cello and Steven Harlos, piano

Yuri Anshelevich
Russian-born cello virtuoso Yuri Anshelevich was born into a musical family, and made his recital debut at the age of 9. Five years later, he had already earned a place to study at the famed Moscow State Conservatory, graduating with highest honors in 1960. He won First Prize in the Cello Division of the All-Russian Competition, which led to studies with Mstislav Rostropovich, one of the greatest cellists of the 20th century.

Mr. Anshelevich was soloist and co-principal cellist for the Moscow State Conservatory for 12 seasons. After emigrating to the USA, his first audition was for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He earned the position, and served as Associate Principal Cello with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra from 1977 to 2015. Mr. Anshelevich has served on the faculty of Southern Methodist University and the University of Dallas. Active as both a soloist and chamber musician, Mr.Anshelevich has won wide critical acclaim for his concert and recital performances.
