Lily Taylor + Black Taffy
Dubbed “the Texan experimental pop chanteuse” by Aquarius Records in SF, CA regarding Taylor’s 2015 album, The Ride, her newer material does not disappoint. Some of the songs are ambient, some are more pop, some delve into experimental territory. “I’ve been living and working as a musician, booking agent, and voice teacher in Texas over the last decade. This specific project is dear to me, as I’ve been working on it the longest. Over the last few years, Black Taffy has helped me focus on production, as well as collaborating on new material, and I think we’ve created something pretty special to share. Each song is a dive into a different world with different characters, places, experiences.”
Black Taffy (Donovan Jones) is a Dallas-based composer and performer whose current focus lies in pairing ambient music with large bass and percussion. Sometimes performing with only Vibraphone and cassette decks, he frequently employs the use of tape loops and other antiquated mediums to create pillowy worlds of wow and flutter. After leaving the band This Will Destroy You, Donovan put all his musical talent into Black Taffy, after a while he started producing other artists, especially female vocalists like Lily Taylor, Sudie, and Mattie.

A mixed media multisensory ecological reveries including soundscape ecology, sound collage, ambient music, field recordings, zines, fiber art, future news, and nous news. Their work was featured in the 2020 UNT Center for Experimental Music and Media event SONIC MURALS, and the 2020 virtual music festival INTERFERENCE FEST: Women Making Noise. They have collaborated with projects at the Dallas Contemporary Museum, the Dallas Museum of Art, and in local North Texas experimental festivals.
