Sundown Collaborative Theatre

Sundown Collaborative Theatre strives to produce plays as holistic pieces of art that evolve from a collaborative process. We want to explore contemporary and classical theatre along with poetry, music, and dance to present innovative performances. By truly working as a collective of artists and utilizing all of our individual abilities, we believe we can create shows that are relevant to who we are both artistically and personally. The visceral experience of a Sundown Collaborative Theatre production should impact audiences by provoking thought and inciting discussion.

Sundown Collaborative Theatre formed late in 2007. Frustrated by the lack of opportunity and driven by artistic passion, six Denton artists began work on a unique project. Using original text, music, and choreography they rehearsed when and where they could, often at odd hours and odd places. They explored new ideas, methods, and emotions to form an artistic collage. The result, Conversations About Love, premiered in March 2008 at Green Space Arts Collective in Denton.

The production set the precedent of passionately pursing artistic endeavors by all available means. Sundown adheres to the idea that art is about the people involved, and that time and energy can be used in less than traditional ways. The company has held late night meetings to plan and discuss, rehearsed in apartments and garages, and performed in basements. Throughout it all, Sundown hopes to continue to work collectively to challenge each other as artists and produce shows that are never lacking passion.
