jazz_09-200Today in the Art&Seek Spotlight, we take a look at the 9th Annual North Texas Jazz Festival. For more on the event:

FIND: For an overview of Saturday’s events, see the festival’s listing on the Art&Seek calendar. Visit the festival’s Web site for a complete schedule of the day’s events.

REACT: Saturday is the final day of the festival. Did anyone attend the Thursday or Friday performances? If so, which act was the best?

DISCUSS: One of the highlights of the festival each year is the film presentations by jazz historian Hal Miller. To see all-time greats like John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk, films of their performances are the only option. But do these films do their performances justice? Or is jazz a medium that is best consumed live?

CREATE: One of the skills that separates the jazz wannabes from the jazz greats is the ability to improvise. But where do you even start? Several Web sites offer tips on making it up as you go along, including eHow.com, bflatmusic.com and wonderhowto.com.
