Saturday Spotlight: Michelangelo Comes to the Kimbell

by Stephen Becker 26 Sep 2009 10:35 AM

Today in the Saturday Spotlight, we’re taking a trip back to the Renaissance via Fort Worth. This weekend, the first painting by Michelangelo to enter an American collection goes on display at the Kimbell Art Museum. The Torment of Saint Anthony was acquired in May by the museum, and it is believed that Michelangelo painted it when he was 12 or 13 years old. Click here to listen to Jerome Week’s feature on the painting from May.

To celebrate its arrival, the museum will show a pair of films today: Michelangelo: Artist and Man and Saving the Sistine Chapel. Click here for screening times.

Today is also Day in the District in Fort Worth. That means you can get in free today at the Kimbell, as well as the Amon Carter Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, Fort Worth Botanic Garden, Log Cabin Village and National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame.
