Saturday Spotlight: Deep Ellum Arts Festival

by Stephen Becker 3 Apr 2009 5:38 PM

Today’s Art&Seek Saturday Spotlight checks in on the 15th Annual Deep Ellum Arts Festival. For more on the event:

FIND: For complete details on the festival, visit its Art&Seek event page here or the festival’s Web site.

REACT: Leroy Roper, famous for his body painting, is this year’s featured artist. Take a look at his MySpace page to see examples of his work and let us know what you think by dropping a comment on this post.

DISCUSS: The festival’s Web site states: “This is an adult-oriented visual and performing arts festival – while supervised young children and teenagers are welcome, there are no planned activities for them.” That’s different than most festivals, which try to be all-encompassing. Does that make you think twice before bringing the kids, or is it refreshing to go to a festival that isn’t trying to please adults and kids alike?

CREATE: Also part of the event is The Artist’s Underground, a “melting pot of original and unsigned Texas artists.” The area will host body painters, fashion designers and acoustic, spoken word and poetry performances. If you’re one of those unsigned artists, stop by and maybe you’ll find an audience.
