Blind Alley

Blind Alley projects is a multi-purpose, small, vitrine-like structure conceived by artists Terri Thornton and Cam Schoepp, and designed in collaboration with Mark and Peter Anderson of Anderson Anderson Architecture, for the purpose of exhibiting single works or installations that respond to the conditions and context of the gallery. It is intended to address a need for discourse, gathering sites and unique alternative exhibition spaces for the DFW art community in addition to reaching a broader audience through its placement and availability within a residential area on the edge of Fort Worth’s cultural district.

The structure itself plays an important role in setting the tone for conversations sought through this project. The roof of the structure is a short grass shallow soil prairie employing a unique tile system to emulate the Walnut Glade, located just west of Fort Worth. As such, the roof is a native habitat for bugs and birds as well as a proof-of-concept for the benefits of a living roof in this difficult environment. As an 8 x 10 ft structure situated near the front of an empty lot with a glass wall facing the street, exhibitions at Blind Alley projects are open to the public – with the capacity for drive-by or street viewing which serves the current circumstances and restrictions of Covid-19*.
