Opera in Concert
Opera in Concert is a 501(c)3 public charity providing professional opera concerts in the Dallas area. Additionally, we raise money to provide scholarships for Texas music students to study in Italy. Our summer opera training program in Italy runs every year from late May to middle June in Urbino.
Opera in Concert Announces it’s 5th Anniversary Season
General Director Heather Ross introduced the
new 2018-19 season of Opera in Concert, which has become one of Dallas’ premier
opera venues, “We’re so excited about everything that’s new this year; an
expanded season with three concert dates, a discounted season ticket price, artist
debuts and fascinating repertoire! We are proud to have reached our fifth
season, and we thank our many patrons and donors in the DFW area!”
New for this season are:
November 30, 2018, Sammons Center
“A Night
in Berlin” featuring complete performances in English of Mahagonny Songspiel by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill and The Tide by Boris Blacher. Mahagonny Songspiel caused a riot when
it premiered in 1927, and The Tide is
a tense psychological drama about four people stranded on a wrecked ship. Our
cast features Stephanie Smittle, Rachel Catlett, Gabrielle Gilliam, Steven
Brennfleck, Doug Brunker, Joshua Hughes, John Kuether and Edward Crafts, with
Stephen Dubberly as music director. Tickets are $20 ($10 for students) at
operainconcert.org
February 10, 2019, Private Venue
“Love in Bloom” , our gala
Valentine’s celebration featuring beloved opera arias from the great romances
of the operatic stage. Our guests will be treated to champagne and Valentine’s
treats in a gorgeous private home! Tickets are $75 at operainconcert.org.
May 2, 2019, Latino Cultural Center
El Barbero de Sevilla by Manuel Nieto and Gerónimo Giménez - a zarzuela about
singers in a performance of Rossini’s The
Barber of Seville, with enough quotations from popular operas to make an
Opera Quiz! This delightful piece will be given a production with the singing
mostly in Spanish and the spoken dialogues mostly in English, so everyone can
enjoy the fun! Our stellar bilingual cast includes zarzuela specialist Judith
Rodriguez, Josefina Maldonado, and Carlos Romero. Stephen Dubberly will be the
music director and translator.
Tickets are $20 ($10 student) at
operainconcert.org
Ms. Ross reminded patrons that all three
concerts can be attended at a discount by purchasing a season ticket for $90
before November 29, 2018 at operainconcert.org.
