Voces Intimae

Voces Intimae [VO-ches EEN-tee-may] is an innovative musical organization bringing the genre of the art song to Metroplex music lovers in an intimate, contemporary, personal setting, allowing listeners to get closer - both physically and emotionally - to this exceptional art.

MISSION:

Voces Intimae was founded in the Spring of 2005 to inspire the revival of art song for a modern audience in the North Texas region, as well as to promote the development of young artists in this special musical genre.

THE RECITAL SERIES:

Each season, Voces Intimae offers a series of exciting recitals with outstanding professional singers and pianists from throughout the Metroplex and further afield. Program themes are carefully designed to be stimulating, provocative and entertaining. We explore poets and composers from around the world in solo and ensemble literature, in songs from every era of the vocal art into music of our time.

THE WORKSHOP:

During an annual workshop weekend, esteemed clinicians delve into a particular topic of focus to develop young singers and pianists studying at Texas universities and schools of music. Events during the workshop include a faculty recital, roundtables, interdisciplinary talks, and a series of master classes designed to bring out the potential in each participant. The weekend culminates in a celebratory program featuring all participants.

ART SONGS - JEWELS IN THE MUSICAL REPERTOIRE:

Art Song is poetry set to music, usually performed by classically trained voice and piano accompaniment, at times with other instruments, in a chamber music setting. This art form combines the insight of poetry, inherent beauty of song, and the scintillating drama of live performance - a blend of elements with the power to stimulate public audiences in a thought provoking manner, enhancing the quality of listener's lives.

As Hugo Wolf 's Italian Songbook opens, "Auch kleine Dinge kkönnen uns entzücken," or "even small things can delight us." Each song, no matter how seemingly small, can provide a portal into another world. This medium provides a different dramatic tableau for expression, without the trappings of sets, costumes, and instrumental ensembles. Rather, art song brings us back to the purity of the word and the beautiful relationship between text and music.

In the intimate song recital setting, the immediacy between the performer and audience demands a directness of expression resulting a truly special atmosphere. Connection between the performers and the public is paramount. Every Voces Intimae artist has a unique story to tell, and the engagement of the audience helps bring these stories to life.
