The Spice of Life (SOLD OUT)

Sammons Center for the Arts

Jazz is the spice of life, especially this month as Sammons Jazz presents Clave Con Alma and the N'awlins Gumbo Kings. The concert opens with the “Latin rhythms meet soul” sounds of Clave Con Alma -- Jeremy Hull on bass, Mike Drake on drums, Jorge Ginorio on lead percussion, Paul Birk on T-bone, Karl Lampman on reeds, Kelly Durbin on piano, and Kerry Adams on trumpet and flugel.

The second set is a trip to Bourbon Street and the Big Easy, courtesy of the rollicking N'awlins Gumbo Kings. This local favorite, featuring Steve Howard on trumpet, Mike Sizer on clarinet/sax, Tony Baker on trombone, Andrew Griffith on drums, Kelly Durbin on piano, and Jeffrey Eckels on bass, is Dixieland at its best.

Sammons Jazz is held at the Sammons Center for the Arts, 3630 Harry Hines at Oak Lawn. Tickets are $50 per person and include beverages, a light meal, and valet parking. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; the concert begins approximately at 7:30 p.m. There are two performance sets of about 40 minutes each with an intermission between. Dress is casual.

Tickets go on sale to the public on Monday, August 12, 2019. To order, call the Sammons Center at (214) 520-7788 or buy online at www.sammonsartcenter.org.
