Learn the ancestral process of hair braiding and using synthetic hair to create fiber art.
During the event, people will learn basic hair plaiting techniques, how to embroider using hair, and how to turn individual braids into soft sculptures. As a part of Danielle's project, "Melanated Magic", we will explore hair politics, traditional forms of healing and, the unique ways in which Black women create wearable art. The event is open to all, no experience needed, and all materials provided.
Danielle is a visual artist of color from Central Texas whose work explores the complexities of being a Black woman in the age of Black Girl Magic.
