Inner Moonlight: Princess McDowell & Gabby Edwards

We are proud to present Princess McDowell and Gabby Edwards for the July Inner Moonlight! Brief open mic to follow, so come ready to share.

Princess McDowell is a poet, writer, and journalist from Dallas, Texas. she’s a book nerd introvert who uses multiple writing forms to process pain, trauma, and legacy. a black bipolar queer lesbian boi who began writing her own journey in social commentary and poems, released her first album of poetry entitled Not A Storybook <3. she has also self-published two chapbooks, faith move muscle and black boi: a bio. As an active member of the national poetry community, Princess served as Volunteer Coordinator for the 2017 and 2018 Women of the World Poetry Slam, and as the associate director of the youth poetry slam nonprofit Dallas Youth Poets. she was a Pink Door literary fellow in 2016 and 2018 and as a teaching artist, she’s taught workshops and collaborated with youth literary organizations such as Big Thought, The Writer’s Garrett, and Young DFW Writers. she tours regularly and publishes a column in Rebellious Magazine for Women, a feminist magazine out of Chicago, and prints in other outlets such as Autostraddle, shades magazine and Black Girl Nerds.

When Gabby E. isn’t purging her soul on paper or a stage, she is working at a non-profit daycare satisfying her desire to work with children. Gabby is loud, energetic, and, above all, dedicated. Recently she published her first book “Baby Poet Problems” and is the 2019 Dallas Poetry Slam Grand Slam Champion. She host open mics and workshops with the Dallas Youth Poets where she was formerly a three-time member and two time captain.  This year she has the honor of learning alongside her coaches in helping coach the 2019 DYP slam team.
