“Thinking Outside the Box” Juried Exhibition and Sale
Runs May 18th - July 6th, 2019

The Dutch Art Gallery proudly presents the “Thinking Outside the Box” themed juried show. Unconventional, novel and inventive are words that come to mind when we hear the phrase “think outside the box”. We invited artists to push their boundaries and break away from the expected and mundane. Now we invite you to view the result.

A special reception will be held during the official show opening on Saturday, May 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The first 25 patrons for the opening receive a special ‘Goodie Bag’ that contains a miniature original art piece by one of the show artists. Come see the art, meet the artists and enjoy the refreshments. Find out the award winners at the 2 p.m. presentation. The show runs from May 18 through July 6.

Deborah Stenberg took the clichéd phrase “making lemons into lemonade” and created a stunning visual representation in her piece titled “Cintron”. She states, “We are given lemons in life and it is up to us to determine if we will be calm and happy in nature and not sour to the challenge of life.” Elevating a common saying into a work of art is truly thinking outside the box.

“Contextures 3” by Cynthia Coldren is an expressive abstract that combines multiple media and materials in a unique way. She created it using hand-painted paper carefully fused to a canvas that had been pre-layered with acrylic washes, inks and textural marks.

Sheri Jones found our theme to be a gateway to new ideas. She pushed reality into an abstraction by manipulating images of bicycles on a computer app. Sheri found inspiration by exploring shape and color choices which evolved into the piece “Kaleidoscope Bike Abstracted”.
