A Therapeutic Stroke of Art | Barbara Tilka

Elm Street Studio

Santa Barbara Tilka is a self-taught artist. She was born in Cuba, and immigrated to the United States with her immediate family at a very young age. In many of her paintings, her use of vibrant colors reflects her Spanish heritage.

In addition to being an Artist, she is a practicing Occupational Therapist. Occasionally she uses her Art as part of her Occupational Therapy sessions to help her patients with their recovery.

Mrs. Tilka has been passionate about Art ever since she was a child. Together with prayer and loved ones, Art now serves as a leading source of joy and strength in her life. She presently resides in the beautiful state of Texas with her husband Robert, a very spoiled dog, and a kitty who adopted her.

Among the many things which inspire the Artist include: Classical music, long walks, reading, writing, dining out, conversing with others who share her art passion, and visiting local Art Museums and Botanical Gardens.

She prides herself on being able to produce Art which captures the essence and emotion of the subject matter. While creating any of her pieces, she focuses on the feelings experienced with the intent of transferring those sentiments onto her work.

The Artist utilizes primarily a combination of the following to produce her final result: Photographs taken by her, on location sketches, and some imagination.

She ultimately hopes her Art will be seen by others as Therapeutic in some personal way and/or inspiring.

Reception Friday, May 31, 6-8 p.m. Show on display through July 5.
