NEA Big Read Irving 2019

Irving Public Library: East Library and Learning Center

This year's NEA Big Read Irving selection is Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant? a graphic novel memoir by Roz Chast, New Yorker cartoonist. Between April 9 and May 18, adults will have a chance to meet the author, write a mini-memoir, watch an acclaimed film, join in discussions, participate in an online book club, dance at a sock hop, and more. Kids have Big Read activities planned for them, too. Each library location will host Grandparent Storytimes, with all generations welcome to participate and make a craft. Children can also learn how to draw a one-panel cartoon, as taught by a professional artist, and create a family tree.

Programs are free unless otherwise noted. Free copies of the books will be given out at each program and library location while available. Irving's program partners for NEA Big Read 2019 include Irving Public Library, Friends of the Irving Public Library, City of Irving, and Irving Arts Center. NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. For more information, please visit https://www.arts.gov/national-initiatives/nea-big-read.
