This film series chronicles the cultural histories that helped to shape the career of the Italian painter Bernardo Bellotto. The first installment features Venice’s illustrious view painter, Antonio Canaletto, Bellotto’s uncle and teacher. Documentaries narrated by Andrew Graham-Dixon provide context for Bellotto’s Dresden sojourn, tracing the history of German art and its enduring fascination with landscape, folklore, and national identity.
