Raas All-Stars celebrates their 11th year on April 20th, 2019. For the 4th consecutive year in Richardson, Raas All-Stars will welcome the top eight collegiate raas-garba teams to the great state of Texas for a weekend filled of camaraderie, culture, passion, fun, and competition. Teams will perform incredible sets complete with high quality production that will leave you yearning for more!
Raas-garba originates from the Indian state of Gujarat. It is an energetic and playful style of dance that commonly uses props known as dandiya. In the US collegiate circuit, students have adapted their own flare to it by combining western music and style. Performances are sure to wow audiences with eye-popping backdrops, theme-incorporation, and stage sets. The heart thumping music will have you at the edge of your seat.
Raas All-Stars (RAS) has several different roles. On one hand, it is the national championship for the garba-raas circuit. However, it is also the main regulatory body of the circuit. RAS oversees over 40 student teams and 15 bid point competitions housed and held across the country. Teams compete at various bid competitions to earn points to earn a spot at Raas All-Stars. As the regulatory body, RAS creates and executes the criteria for choosing and judging these competitions. As the national championship, it hosts the top teams for an unforgettable weekend.
For some students, reaching Raas All-Stars marks one of the brightest moments of their college career. Years of hard work including (quite literally) blood, sweat, and tears pay off and their efforts are finally realized. Please join RAS in welcoming these phenomenal talents to North Texas!
