To write is to revise—but how do you find the distance necessary to edit your own work? In this workshop, professional editor Amber Helt will walk you through the process of self-editing like a pro. We’ll discuss the different types of editing passes, how a professional assesses a manuscript, and where to start revising your own work. This workshop will focus on developmental and line editing for fiction writers. NOTE: Participants will submit a scene from their own writing (>1000 words) ahead of time to be workshopped by the group.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Amber Helt is an editor and author coach who helps independent authors prune their novels and grow their storytelling skills. Before starting Rooted in Writing, Amber worked at traditional and indie publishers as an editor and ghostwriter. Wanting to spend more one-on-one time with authors to help them improve their writing and further their understanding of the publishing process, Amber now offers editing, coaching, and ghostwriting services to new authors. In her spare time, Amber writes dark fantasy and is the North Texas chapter coordinator for the Editorial Freelancers Association.
