A Night of Salsa


South Dallas Cultural Center

WHAT: For many years, Calvin Sexton-International Touring Artist, Educator, and band leader of the ensemble, Inner City All-Stars-has excited audiences with his unique and energetic approach to captivating audiences through his performances. Sexton brings his highly interactive style of engagement to his unique music project, “The Jazz Trombone Project”. In his inaugural year of the program, high school music study Salsa and Latin Jazz of the Great Salsa Trombonist Willie Colon, Hector Lavoe and others in a tribute concert to these great musicians.  Calvin Sexton will also perform original compositions as well.

This program was created through the funding of the Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs Cultural Vitality.

Media is allowed for interviews upon approval by each Venue.  The Ensemble will be available for interviews before and after performance.


WHY: The Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs Cultural Vitality Program

Is an innovative projects or services that create active and ongoing engagement with people, neighborhoods and communities in Dallas. They should celebrate our diversity, build community connections and enhance the visibility of neighborhoods through arts and culture. Calvin Sexton was awarded the opportunity to participate in the program and create the “Jazz Trombone Project” program.  This program served the southern sector music students in the Oak Cliff area.
