Civil Discourse Series: Asylum in America

Unity of Dallas

Each year, thousands of people leave their homes and seek asylum in the United States. Join us for a discussion on the United States’ approach to asylum and the laws that govern this process. Panelists will explore questions like: What does it means to seek asylum? Who is eligible for this status and why? What standards for asylum applicants are currently in place? Are our asylum laws working in the most effective and efficient ways? Do our asylum laws need to be changed or revised?

This panel will be moderated by Jenny Manrique, Multimedia Reporter for Al Día and The Dallas Morning News.

Confirmed Panelists:

  • Elizabeth Cassidy, Director of International Law and Policy, U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom
  • Bill Holston, Executive Director, Human Rights Initiative of North Texas

The Civil Discourse Series presents multiple sides of a thought-provoking topic through respectful discussion. For each event, the Museum will convene a panel of subject matter experts to represent their unique perspectives on an issue related to human and civil rights.
