SDCC Music Lounge: Take Me Oya

South Dallas Cultural Center

Multi-instrumentalist Jess Garland is set to invoke the spirit of Oya at SDCC! Join South Dallas Cultural Center for an evening of music inspired by Oya, the Yoruba Goddess of the Niger River, Saturday, April 27 at 7:30pm.

Take Me Oya is a 60 minute one set music performance with visual projections by Pixel Lab. The project is reflective of the Yoruba goddess of the Niger River. She is the patroness of female leadership and strength. Women often pray to Oya to find the strength to create peace with others or within themselves and can channel her to work through insecurities so that they can heal themselves and others. Oya is considered a warrior and protector. She is also an orisha of winds, lightning, and violent storms, death, and rebirth. Jess invokes her spirit through the beautiful sounds of her vocals, harp, and guitar.

Invocation by: Hathor Hendrix, Leisha Anders, and Fatima Hirsi
