Let’s Talk is an intermittent zine that gives space to writing, art and stories by diverse voices. In a time of increasing social division, MAP aims to provide a place where people are empowered to voice their stories, and to increase knowledge, understanding and empathy across communities and cultures. Let’s Talk Issue 2 features MAP’s affiliate project Break Bread, Bread Borders.

Originated by artist Jin-Ya Huang, Break Bread, Break Borders provides income-earning opportunities for women refugees from Asia and the Middle East. The women prepare traditional food for dinners and catering events where they also share recipes and host conversations about their cultural heritage.

The Let's Talk, Break Bread, Break Borders zine features the immigration stories and recipes of Maryam Alhaw (Syria), Mariam Alshiblaq (Syria) and San San Naung (Myanmar). Beautifully illustrated by graphic novelist Tessa Hulls, the zine also includes essays that provide social and historical context to Maryam, San San and Mariam's stories as well as resources for refugee services.

Let's Talk Issue 2 is generously funded by the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, Communities Foundation of Texas, Harold Simmons Foundation and the Make Art with Purpose Community Fund.

Zine launch produced with generous support from The Wild Detective.
