Pollock Gallery Exhibit: EMERITA: A retrospective of Debora Hunter and Mary Vernon

Southern Methodist University - Hughes-Trigg Student Center

The SMU Pollock Gallery presents EMERITA, a show of works by recently retired SMU Division of Art professors Debora Hunter (photography) and Mary Vernon (painting). This two-person retrospective honors their collective 90-year contribution to the Meadows School of the Arts, exhibiting work from the 1970s to the present. Hunter, who joined the SMU faculty in 1976, retired in 2017; Vernon taught at SMU from 1967 until her retirement in 2018. Both were profoundly influential professors as well as established artists. Their work is fueled by a diversity of encounters and perspectives, combining unbridled imagination with disciplinary rigor and incisive critical thought. EMERITA builds upon the legacy of excellence in the work of Hunter and Vernon in the fields of art and pedagogy. A publication about the artists will accompany the show and will include essays by James Sullivan and Temple Shipley.
