Opening Reception: Bread & Butter

Galleri Urbane - Dallas

Galleri Urbane is pleased to present a group exhibition titled Bread & Butter opening on Saturday, June 23, organized by Assistant Director Adrian Zuñiga. Making use of the gallery’s entire exhibition space, the show offers a rare chance to present the core of the gallery’s artistic vision outside of the standard solo-exhibition format.

The show draws from all new work created in the last year by numerous gallery artists, intending to provide audiences with the latest updates from our artists’ studios located around the country. Many of the artists included have presented solo shows in recent months, yet Bread & Butter provides a platform to display developments that have occurred in the weeks and months following those exhibitions. Loring Taoka, for instance, has expanded on his plexiglass paintings presented earlier this spring by making use of laser-cutting technology in his newest works, bringing the influence of digital modeling closer to the surface of his practice. Arden Bendler Browning, whose first solo exhibition with Galleri Urbane opened in January, has continued her explorations of abstracted landscapes with newly produced paintings inspired by a recent road trip around the Australian continent. For other artists, such as Jessica Snow and Heath West, the exhibition will serve as the perfect opportunity to view the direction that work is taking in the months leading up to solo exhibitions later this year.

In addition to our represented artists, Bread & Butter will also include work by visiting artists whose practices exemplify Galleri Urbane’s commitment to exhibiting promising young talent. With new paintings informed by a recent month-long residency in Brooklyn, Dallas-based Benjamin Terry will be showing with Galleri Urbane for the first time. New to the Dallas arts community, Christopher Paul Dean will present the latest pieces in a series of work began during his MFA studies at Savannah College of Art and Design. Zuñiga has selected these two, along with other visiting artists, for their highly-focused artistic endeavors of exceptional quality that resonate with the gallery’s programming. While the exhibition will present work of various mediums exploring a wide gamut of ideas, it will nonetheless illustrate a decided reflection of contemporary art that is quintessentially Galleri Urbane.

A public opening reception for Bread & Butter will occur at Galleri Urbane Dallas on Saturday, June 23, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
