Telling Our Stories: Creating Maternal Identity through Photography, curated by Cynthia Miller
The Cedar Valley College Educational Art Gallery is pleased to present a new exhibition, "Telling Our Stories: Creating Maternal Identity through Photography," curated by Cynthia Miller, a Dallas photographer. Currently a Ph.D. candidate in Humanities, Aesthetic Studies at UT Dallas, Miller is also a professor at Richland College. The exhibiting artists include Amy Holmes George, H. Jennings Sheffield, Libby Rowe, Danielle Rene Khoury, Lupita Murillo Tinnen, Ana Fritzel as well as Cynthia Miller.
These diverse artists explore personal and distinctive first-person reflections of their concept of maternal experience. Miller seeks to present views of motherhood that avoid the mass-media banalities about these real, adult women, and reveal their actual voices, identities and agency.
The show will be on view from June 5 through August 4, 2018, at the Cedar Valley College main campus, in Lancaster. The Cedar Valley College Educational Art Gallery, located in the E Building, is open weekdays, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
