The Original Black Panther Party in Dallas & Denton

South Dallas Cultural Center

Join us for an hors d'oeuvres and drinks reception and community discussion of the legacy of the Panthers and vision for the future. Pick up a copy of the book, enjoy old friends, and make new ones.

The Black Panther Party in a City Near You tells the story of the Panther branches in four cities: Dallas, Boston, Atlanta, and Washington, DC. The authors maintain that “the Black Panther Party’s success is owed largely to those Panthers who are virtually unknown to the wider public.” Come learn more about the untold story of the Panthers working at the grassroots level building the “survival programs” that were the foundation of the party’s bond with the people. The event is FREE and open to the public.

Former Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Diane Ragsdale will moderate a panel with Rev. Dr. Leroy Haynes, Jr., Marvin Crenshaw, Skip Shockley, Sister Sonceria Messiah, and B.L. Smith, all members of the original Dallas and Denton Panthers, along with Ernest McMillan, founder of the Dallas chapter of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee.
