Portrait Watercolor

Oil and Cotton Creative Exchange

Saturday, June 23, 3-6pm
Location: 817 W. Davis #110 Street
Instructor: Jay Bailey:
# of Students: 4 - 12

This workshop will explore the use of watercolor and mixed media techniques to render and depict a human portrait. Watercolor has unique qualities which allow for flexible applications and dynamic paintings. We will discuss material considerations such as brushes, papers, surfaces, and paints. We will also cover concepts and methods which will open doors for any level of painter, such as a limited palette and the role of preliminary drawings.

We will primarily work from photographs, however, we will also work from life when discussing portraiture concepts. Limited to 8 students.

Jay Bailey earned his BA at the University of Nevada, Reno, undertook post-baccalaureate studies at the San Francisco Art Institute, and completed his MFA at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has taught introductory and advanced drawing, painting, watercolor, and figure drawing to undergraduate and graduate students in the Art Department at UNLV. He maintains a studio in the Continental Gin Building in Dallas, Texas. He is represented by JM Gallery in the Dallas Arts District.
