Inner Moonlight: Lauren Brazeal & Stevie Edwards

The Wild Detectives

Y’all are not ready for the next installment of Inner Moonlight. In keeping with the Women Galore events for May, we have two incredible women featuring this month: Lauren Brazeal and Stevie Edwards. We’ll follow up with 15-minute open mic available to women only.

Lauren Brazeal’s poetry and short fiction has appeared all over; sometimes impressive people say impressive things about it. Her two chapbooks of poetry can be found for sale from Dancing Girl Press and Horse Less Press, and her full-length collection of poetry Gutter, which chronicles her time as a teenage runaway on the streets of Los Angeles, is scheduled to be released from Yes Yes Books this very May. She currently teaches English at W.H. Adamson Early College in Oak Cliff, where her students describe her as ‘savage.’ When not devising lesson plans or writing, she can be found dancing with her two-year-old son, Atreyu, and perfecting her elote en vaso recipe.

Stevie Edwards is the founder and editor-in-chief of Muzzle Magazine and senior editor in book development at Yes Yes Books. Her first book, Good Grief (Write Bloody, 2012), received the Independent Publisher Book Awards Bronze in Poetry and the Devil’s Kitchen Reading Award from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Her second book, Humanly, was released in 2015 by Small Doggies Press, and her chapbook, Sadness Workshop, came out from Button Poetry this past January. She has an M.F.A. in poetry from Cornell University and is a Ph.D. candidate in creative writing at University of North Texas. Her poetry is published and forthcoming in Indiana Review, Crazyhorse, TriQuarterly, Redivider, 32 Poems, The Journal, Rattle, Verse Daily, Pleiades, Ninth Letter, and elsewhere.

This is going to be a stellar night of poetry and we can’t wait to see you there!

“Follow your inner moonlight, don’t hide the madness.”
—Allen Gingsberg, from On Being a Writer.
