Kids In The Cliff - The Tale Of Peter Rabit

The Wild Detectives

If you enjoyed the new big-screen adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit in movie theaters, come join us for storytime at The Wild Detectives on Sunday May 6th when we look at the pioneering and persistent author/illustrator’s life and work, including everyone’s favorite rabbit tale. Did you know she only went into children’s literature and illustrations after she was refused an audience as a mushroom scientist because she was a woman?! Or that her work, which publishers repeatedly rejected, became so successful after she published it herself, that it was faked and pirated around the world? We will read from a selection of her stories and biography, see her mycology (mushroom) illustrations, and look at antique and current knockoffs as well as toys and memorobilia from different eras.

Also, each week in May except Mothers’ Day, we will pair a story from  contemporary leading lady author of kid lit Andrea Beaty with our other Kids In The Cliff readings. On Sunday, May 6th, we will round out our Beatrix Potter storytime by reading a tale for today’s empowered young science-savvy kids: Ada Twist, Scientist, the latest book from Beaty.
