The WD Book Club - Red Clocks

The Wild Detectives

We’re kicking off this year edition of Women Galore –our month-long festival celebrating women in the arts– with a book club discussion about Red Clocks, by Leni Zumas, a gender-roaring tour de force in which abortion is once again illegal in America, in-vitro fertilization is banned, and the Personhood Amendment grants rights of life, liberty, and property to every embryo.

Leni Zumas will be in the shop 3 days later, on Thursday 3, to present her novel, so, if you like the book, come back that Thursday and meet the author in the flesh.

“The bodies of women in RED CLOCKS are each the site of resistance and revolution. I screamed out loud. I pumped my first in the air. And I remembered how hope is forged from the ground up, through the bodies of women who won’t be buried.” –Lidia Yuknavitch, author of The Book of Joan

“In bristling sentences, Leni Zumas shows girls and women defying the excruciating restrictions imposed by both law and culture. RED CLOCKS is unabashedly political and fiercely humane.” –Emily Fridlund, author of History of Wolves

As always, Book Club members (meaning you just show up) will enjoy a 10% discount on the next book club title and on every item they’ll ask for at the bar during the Book Club meeting.

Let’s meet up and talk Literature.
