Dallas Poetry Project: Featuring Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre and Awaji Johnson will be the grand finale of the Dallas Poetry Project series on April 28th at the Texas Theatre. Awaji Johnson is a former Dallas Slam Champion and National Performance Poet, and Guante is a two-time National Poetry Slam champion. The evening will also host up and coming high school poet Ariel Warren, who recently won the 2018 Texas Poetry Out Loud competition and will be representing Texas at the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest in Washington DC. Created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud encourages students to master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about great poetry, literary history and contemporary life through memorization and recitation

Ariel Warren
Ariel Lynn Warren is a native of Dallas, Texas. She attends Lewisville High School, where she plays the violin in the symphonic orchestra and is pursuing one of her passions in photography through photojournalism. Out of school, Ariel is most inspired by her love for fashion, music, art, and writing. Her biggest long-term goal being to own her own fashion line. Among all of these hobbies, she enjoys her profound alone time, usually reading. Her favorite author is Reyna Biddy. When she graduates, Ariel aspires to attend Baylor University.

Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre
Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre is an MC, two-time National Poetry Slam champion, activist and educator. His work explores the relationships between identity, power, and resistance, and has been featured on Upworthy, Welcome to Night Vale, Everyday Feminism, MSNBC, the Huffington Post, and beyond. Garnering over ten million views online, Guante has also performed live at the United Nations, given a TedxTalk, and presented at countless colleges, universities, and conferences.
