Linda Dee Guy: Littoral Imaginarium

Ro2 Art in The Cedars

Ro2 Art is proud to present Littoral Imaginarium, a solo exhibition featuring new works by artist Linda Dee Guy. The show will run from March 31 through April 28, 2018. There will be an opening reception held Saturday, March 31, from 7-10pm at Ro2 Art located at 1501 S. Ervay Street in Dallas’ Cedars neighborhood.

In Littoral Imaginarium, Linda Dee Guy explores the seaside as a powerful source of creative inspiration. Symbolizing the realm in which two worlds meet, the shore acts as a boundary between the known and the deep unknown. On the topic of artistic exploration, the artist writes, “What I value most about being an artist is that artists possess an unusual amount of curiosity. Curiosity is magic: it’s the force that drives creation of something out of nothing. In particular, it allows one to make connections between things that are often overlooked or hidden.”

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Littoral: of, relating to, or situated or growing on or near a shore especially of the sea

Imaginarium: a place devoted to the imagination. There are various types of imaginaria, centers largely devoted to stimulating and cultivating the imagination, towards scientific, artistic, commercial, recreational, or spiritual ends.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Linda Dee Guy grew up in Tampa, Florida, with a childhood that was rich in both ordinary and extraordinary experiences. She experienced exotic and strange sideshows at the Florida State Fair, The Ringling Brothers Circus (some of whose performers lived in her neighborhood), and later Disney World. Of her upbringing, Linda says, “It seemed as if I lived amongst exciting fictions and the nature of reality was often in question.”

She began her art making quest at the University of South Florida, majoring in printmaking which allowed her to incorporate drawing, painting and photography. She went to earn a terminal degree that allowed her to pursue a teaching career. After teaching lithography, screenprinting and drawing for 36 years at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, she retired, Emeritus Professor of Art, moved back to Florida, and opened a studio in the Warehouse Arts District.

Linda Dee Guy’s exhibition experiences include over twenty solo exhibitions including international shows in Peru and Japan. She has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally in over 100 juried group exhibitions. Her public work is on permanent display at the Fort Worth Dallas Airport. She is currently represented by Ro2 Art in Dallas, Texas and has regularly shown in group exhibitions, as well as the annual Dallas Art Fair and Houston Art Fair.
