December of 2017 will witness the 400th birthday of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1617–1682), luminary of Golden Age Seville. The Meadows Museum is in possession of five of this star painter’s works, more paintings by him than any other museum in the United States. This exhibition celebrates this painter by exhibiting the extraordinary holdings by Murillo at the Meadows together with paintings by his Sevillian contemporaries, thus resituating the artist within the artistic context with which he remains so intimately associated.
