What Can We Hope For? Faith and Politics In Our Polarized Age

Southern Methodist University - McCord Auditorium

Michael Wear, former White House staffer in the Office of Faith-based Initiatives and Director of Faith Outreach for President Obama's 2012 re-election campaign, will speak and take questions on the role of faith in contemporary American politics, and on the ways that people and institutions of faith might contribute to restoring civil discourse and a sense of community to American public life.  Drawing on his experiences working in the Obama White House, Wear will discuss the challenges that serious religious believers face in the contemporary Democratic Party, and the ways that his party has--and hasn't--effectively reconciled religious and secular elements within its own coalition.

The event will take place in, McCord Auditorium, 3rd Floor, Dallas Hall on Wednesday, January 31st with a reception starting from 5:30 PM and remarks at 6:00 PM.
