Visiting Artist Lecture: Mariko Paterson

Southern Methodist University - Robert J. O'Donnell Lecture-Recital Hall

Mariko Paterson has been around the ceramic block. Born and raised in Vancouver, she began her ceramic studies at Langara College, completed her degree at the Alberta College of Art and earned an M.F.A. at Kent State University. After working in New York, Michigan, Ohio and Manitoba, she opened Forage Studios in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, which now serves as her ceramic headquarters. Forage Studios strives to produce a subversive strain of ceramic work as well as serve the community with an education in the arts. “Historical meets hand-building” is where her sculptural interests lie, and a dalliance with the pottery wheel has resulted in both forms and a forum for exploring her love of creamy cone 6 clay bodies and illustration. Forage loves to “make things big and small, functional and sculptural, all steeped in a deep sense of oddball humor.” For more information call 214.768.2787.
