Laura Wilson: Photographs in the West; and Byrd Williams IV: Memory, Imagery, and Mortality

Fort Works Art

Laura Wilson: Photographs in the West explores the artist’s vision of Western culture through her extensive travels through the American West. Wilson is known for her honest, enthralling portraits and Western-themed body of works, creating her highly-acclaimed portfolio that begins in the 1970s. Her solo exhibition That Day opened at the Amon Carter in 2015 and is currently traveling. The New York Times Magazine has referred to her past work as "a classic of Texas history." Laura Wilson's photography has been showcased in The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, GQ Magazine and more.

Juxtaposing Wilson’s imagery, Fort Works Art’s upper gallery space will feature the riveting work of renowned Texas photographer Byrd Williams IV. Titled Memory, Imagery, and Mortality, the collection includes more than 30 works that depict the scope of the aging process.

Offsetting both exhibitions, Marshall Harris’ saddle prints will be available in the venue’s satellite gallery. These gorgeous, limited edition, hand-signed leather masterpieces will further lend a distinctly Texan element to the show and give a nod to the wonderful history of the Stock Show and Rodeo taking place at the same time.

An exclusive opening night reception will take place on January 5, from 6-9 p.m. and both Laura Wilson and Byrd Williams IV will be on-hand to meet guests and sign books. Exhibition on display January 3 - February 3, 2018
