LakeCities Ballet Theatre is proud to present its holiday classic, "The Nutcracker", with performances held on November 25th and 26th in Corinth, Texas.
The Nutcracker is a favorite seasonal ballet of magic and wonder with music composed in 1891 by Pyotr Illych Tchaikovsky. Its first performance, based on Alexandre Dumas’ adaptation of "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King," by E.T.A. Hoffmann, was choreographed by Marius Petipa. It was first performed for Russian audiences in December of 1892 in St. Petersburg and was a complete failure. Since then, the ballet experienced a revival when world-famous choreographer George Balanchine created a new production in 1954. Through the years, it has become a Christmas tradition, rising in popularity to become one of the most beloved ballets of all time. The Nutcracker's appeal, spanning three centuries, can be attributed to its timeless characters and its fairytale storyline.
LakeCities Ballet Theatre’s beautifully intricate choreography by Kelly Kilburn Lannin, LBT Artistic Director, splendid costuming and set design, as well as the incomparable music of Tchaikovsky, make this a holiday must see! This year’s audiences will be treated to special guest artists Sarah Lane, newly announced Principal Dancer and Soloist with American Ballet Theater of New York, and Daniel Ulbricht, Soloist and Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet of New York. Ms. Lane and Mr. Ulbricht will be making their third appearance together as the Sugarplum Fairy and her Cavalier for this year’s LBT Nutcracker audiences.
The Nutcracker’s fanciful tale will take the stage at the Lake Dallas High School Auditorium, located at 3016 Parkridge Dr., Corinth, TX 76210. Performance dates are November 25th at 7:30 pm and November 26th at 2:00 pm.
