MARILYN WALIGORE: WASTE & WANT

November 3 through December 8, 2017

Artist’s Reception: November 3 (Friday), 2017, 3 – 5 p.m.

Exhibition Opening on Friday, November 3rd is presented in coordination with Cedar Valley College’s Sustainability Summit, an all-day event on that date.

The Art Gallery at Cedar Valley College is pleased to present the exhibition, Marilyn Waligore: Waste & Want.  The artist collects discarded aluminum waste to create sculptural forms, which ultimately exist only in a photographic record.  Waligore’s images of these constructions urge the viewer to reflect on the consumption of material goods, and their ultimate resting place, despoiling our environment.

Professor of Aesthetic Studies and Photography at the University of Texas at Dallas, Marilyn Waligore has directed the photography program for the school since 1989. Her photographs and online media projects have been exhibited in Hong Kong, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Thailand, the New York Digital Salon, SIGGRAPH, The School of Visual Arts, the Houston Center for Photography, and The Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, as well as other locations.  Her artwork is included in museum collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.

The Educational Art Gallery is located on the ground floor of the E Building on the main Cedar Valley College campus in Lancaster, Texas. The address is 3030 N. Dallas Rd., Lancaster, TX 75134.  Parking is free. The gallery is open weekdays, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. For more information, please contact Gallery Manager, Betsy Belcher, at 972-860-5281 or [email protected]
