Kids in the Cliff--Halloween Special

The Wild Detectives

Bring your little ones for morning story time at The Wild Detectives. Jill Holston will get them in Halloween mood by reading The Hallo-wiener by Dav Pilkey & There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Bat! By Lucille Colandro.

The Hallo-wiener
Oscar is short, like all dachshunds, and other dogs make fun of him. On Halloween he takes more ridicule than ever in his hot-dog costume, but one brave act makes him a hero. A School Library Journal Best of the Best of 1995.

There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Bat!
What won’t this old lady swallow? This time around, a bat, an owl, a cat, a ghost, a goblin, some bones, and a wizard are all on the menu! This Halloween-themed twist on the classic “little old lady” books will delight and entertain all brave readers who dare to read it!

Jill Holston has taught in public and private elementary schools in the Dallas area for the past 25 years. She’s taught kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade. She’s currently a dyslexia teacher for Richardson ISD. One of her greatest joys in teaching is introducing students to the love of reading. She says that one of the biggest complements she’s ever received as a reading teacher was written in one of her 4th grade student’s composition: “She is a magnificent reader, when she reads to us I get lost in her words.”

It’ll be a 25 minute read followed by a short discussion with the kids–that’s going to be interesting, we can’t wait to see what they come up with.

The book is geared for ages 4-7, but all ages are welcome.

On Saturday morning bring your kids and infuse them with a love for reading.
