My American Dream presented by Project: Start

NorthPark Center

Project: Start, a refugee resource center in North Dallas, will present “My American Dreams” refugee children's art exhibition August 8-23 at NorthPark Center, located on North Central Expressway in Dallas.

Project: Start is working to connect refugees in Dallas with the resources they need to find stability. Thousands upon thousands of refugees live within a three-mile stretch of a North Dallas called Vickery Meadow. With over 30 different languages spoken, their needs are as diverse as the community itself, and Project: Start has found this exhibition to be a great way to increase awareness and advocate on behalf of refugee issues.

Children’s art will be gathered through already existing contacts with refugee families in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood and beyond. Refugee children from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Iraq and Iran have signed up to participate, with an expected 38 works of art exhibited.

Many families that have been helped in the past have reacted with enthusiasm upon hearing of the opportunity for their children to participate.

“While Project: Start is all about helping refugees with day-to-day needs–and we certainly continue doing that–I believe this event will help Project:Start achieve several additional goals: Expose the work and ministry of Project:Start to tens of thousands of new people, give hope and inspire refugees to dream big about their lives in America and help us further advocate on behalf of refugee issues,” said Leonid Regheta, director of Project: Start. As a result of this opportunity, Project: Start will potentially reach over 60,000 people at NorthPark Center in a two-week period in August.

The Grand Opening Ceremony for the exhibition will begin at 11 a.m. on August 8, where there will be refugee families in attendance.

NorthPark Center is inviting Project: Start to organize and present this exhibition free of charge. They are partnering with Project: Start to assist in publicity as well as preparing the exhibition space, and have graciously donated food for the Grand Opening Ceremony.
