The Artists Showplace Gallery is celebrating the season with three hot contemporary artists: Randy Jacobs, Kathy Metcalf and Christina Yielding, and book sculptor Keith Kriegel. The exhibit runs from Friday, August 11 through Thursday, August 31. A reception to meet the artists and watch live demonstrations will be held on Friday, August 11, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Complimentary wine and appetizers will be served.
Shortly after 9/11, self-taught artist Randy Jacobs turned to painting as an expression of his overwhelming emotions. He is best known for his multiple layers of texture. His mediums range from acrylic to mixed media, including ink, watercolor, and iridescence.
Book sculptor Keith Kriegel, a graduate of the Baylor College of Dentistry, loves the attention to detail that book carving requires. Using a surgical blade, he enjoys discovering what is hidden behind each page.
A native of Dallas, Kathy Metcalf says that at the turn of the 21st century, she found herself in fervent need of self-expression. Completely self-taught, she views painting as a “catharsis for the soul” that gives her a sense of peace and joy. Her work is bold in color and texture.
Christina Yielding’s innovative techniques for creating her mixed-media paintings include using a variety of scrapers rather than brushes. Painting solely on wood, Christina builds a custom frame around every dynamic piece. Her work has been featured in solo and group shows throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
