A Year in the Life of a Self-Published Author with Jane Alvey Harris

Bedford Public Library

Curious about self-publishing, but not sure where to begin? Join us for our North Texas SCBWI May meeting and as we learn the tips and tricks of the self-publishing trade with award-winning self-published author (and fellow North Texas chapter member) Jane Alvey Harris.

Jane will be presenting  "A Year in the Life of a Self-Published Author," a first-hand account of her self-publishing journey. The presentation includes invaluable resources for authors seeking to self-publish; from outlining the steps to check off your list before publishing (generating buzz, editorial reviews and author blurbs, platform, interior and cover design, & etc.), to the steps to take to promote your book post-publishing (PR, awards contests, giveaways, trailers, signings and appearances, and more). Learn proven strategies and tips for success as well as the pitfalls to avoid as she delves into the complex ins-and-outs of self-publishing. This presentation will help authors set realistic expectations about the process so they can answer the question: “Is Self-Publishing the right option for me?”

Jane Alvey Harris is an award-winning Young Adult author, Dallas resident, and mother of three. Her debut self-published novel, RIVEN, is the recipient of the 2016 Moonbeam Children's Book Awards Gold Medal for Best E Book, Young Adult Fiction, and winner of Publishers Weekly’s 2016 BookLife Prize in Fiction, Young Adult Category. SECRET KEEPER, the second book in the My Myth Trilogy, will be available summer 2017. She has a Humanities degree from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in Art History, Italian Language, and Studio Art. She’s crazy about the visual and performing arts. But her real passion is people. Jane loves to watch and study what makes us tick as human beings. She’s definitely a dreamer, and her favorite thing to do is to weave together sublime settings and stories for characters to live and learn in, herself included.
