Humming House - Party-worthy Americana with a dash of Irish flair

Few bands embody what’s right about the “new Nashville” more completely than the quintet known as Humming House. It’s in the way they weave together threads of Music City’s folk, soul and bluegrass legacies with inspirational, revealing songwriting. It’s also in their acoustic instrumentation, presenting mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar and bass in fresh roles. And it’s in the voices, with two complementary stylists up front backed by the full band’s rapturous harmonies. Their most recent recording, Revelries, mixes bluegrass and Celtic with vintage swing and 1960s hootenanny folk music. The recording earned them quick attention for videos of its infectious songs, “Cold Chicago” and “Gypsy Django,” and a performance slot at the Americana Music Festival. They also opened the Music City Roots hall in The Factory in 2014, sharing the bill with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell. Among the five members of Humming House, there’s scarcely a genre or period that somebody in the band hasn’t spent time learning or embracing from show tunes to bluegrass and beat boxing.
