The Meadows Museum collaborates with the Museo Nacional del Prado to present the most comprehensive show ever dedicated to the artist’s drawings, and the first major monographic exhibition organized on the artist in the U.S. in the last 25 years. About fifty drawings (nearly a third of the artist’s surviving output), eleven paintings, a small selection of prints, and one relief sculpture will be on display. The exhibition will highlight the variety of Ribera’s drawings; the technical skill in his use of pen and ink, and chalk; and the extraordinary originality of his subject matter, which includes anatomical figure studies, lively street images, capricious subjects, and scenes of martyrdom and torture.
